AMAURY WINS IN LOURDES!
The season has started with a bang and our first World Cup win of 2022 is in the bag.
After Qualification yesterday there was a big question mark over whether Amaury would be able to race today, and the kind of perfect performance that is needed to win seemed impossible. However, today was a new day and Amaury showed he’s back to winning ways. He gave a simply brilliant performance, going fastest with two riders left to race and holding onto the hot seat through a nail-biting final run. After injury, illness and setbacks, this was a sweet tasting victory to celebrate with the crazy French crowds!
Myriam’s day ended in a superb second place, but it started with a big crash that put her capability of racing and delivering a decent result in real jeopardy. With incredible focus and determination, Pompon turned it around for finals, and even a couple of sketchy moments couldn’t keep her from coming within 0.624 of the win. This spirit is what makes her a Champion!
Thibaut was on brilliant pace all week but fatigue took its toll and he crashed in his race run. With his characteristic sense of perspective, he already sees the value of today’s experience and is looking ahead to the build towards Fort William.
Both Tristan and Hugo also fell foul to crashes today. After a super Qualification result for his first ever World Cup, Hugo really felt the disappointment of today’s result. For Tristan, the comeback from injury was not as smooth as he hoped, but to be in a position to race at all was a great achievement. They’ll both be back fighting near the front soon!
In the end, we leave Lourdes very happy. A win to start the season is a huge reward for the work done, and an equally big boost for the work to come.
